Assessment at Royal Tots Academy

Our assessment system has been developed to meet the requirements of the International Early Years Curriculum and the National Curriculum and of course to give parents accurate information about their child’s learning and development.

Assessment in Early Childhood Education has two main purposes.

  • The first is gathering information on the child’s progress to report to parents and to the Ministry of Education and the IEYC. This is called assessment for reporting.
  • The second type of assessment is called assessment for learning. This is the gathering of information on how a child engages in learning and what their strengths and interests are.

This information guides teachers planning so that they can ensure all children are able to participate in the learning programme.

At Royal Tots Academy K1 and K2 children receive a report every semester and every term they receive a portfolio with learning stories and examples of the children’s work.
Play Group and Nursery children receive a Portfolio and Benchmarks every term.
Reports and Benchmarks are examples of assessment for reporting. Parents gain information on their child’s progress, what they have learnt.

The portfolios are a method of assessment for learning. The information in the portfolio highlights the way you child learns. There interests, strengths and friendships. Each child’s portfolio is unique and celebrate you child’s learning.
